simplehuman 40L Slim Kitchen Step Trash Can, Black — Space‑Saving, Slow‑Close Lid & Slide Lock

simplehuman 40 Liter slim step trash can is a space-saving kitchen can with a quiet, slow-closing lid, a secure slide lock, and a durable steel pedal. This slim plastic step can is built to fit where wider cans won't — think narrow gaps between cabinets or beside appliances. Its compact 40 L (10.6 gallon) capacity balances everyday household waste needs with a design that keeps floors clear and traffic flowing. The combination of a sturdy steel pedal, smooth lid action, and a child- and pet-resistant slide lock makes it a practical choice for busy kitchens, apartments, or utility spaces.

How does the lid stay quiet and controlled?

The can uses simplehuman's patented lid shox mechanism to control lid motion for a soft, silent close. Instead of a harsh slam, the lid descends slowly and stops gently, protecting the can and reducing noise in open-plan homes.

• Patented lid shox technology for slow, controlled descent
• Reduces slamming that can rattle dishes or cabinets
• Durable dampening components for long-term performance

Will this fit in tight kitchen spaces?

Yes — the slim, rectangular profile is optimized to slide into narrow gaps where circular cans won’t fit. Its compact footprint still provides a 40 L capacity, so you don't sacrifice volume for a space-saving shape.

• Slim dimensions ideal for between cabinets and appliances
• Rectangular shape maximizes capacity in minimal floor space
• Built-in wheels allow easy repositioning for cleaning or disposal

How does the slide lock improve safety and cleanliness?

The integrated slide lock secures the lid in a closed position, helping to deter pets and curious children from accessing waste. It also keeps odors contained and prevents accidental lid openings during transport or when the can is tipped.

• Slide lock secures lid to limit access to contents
• Useful when moving the can or storing it in tight areas
• Helps keep odors and messes contained for cleaner spaces

What makes the liners fit properly and resist tearing?

simplehuman recommends Code K liners sized to this model so the bag lies flat without bunching or slipping. The liners are thicker than standard plastic bags and use double-seam construction to reduce the chance of rips under normal household use.

• Code K liners cut to the can’s dimensions for a secure fit
• Extra-thick plastic and double-seam build for tear resistance
• No bunching or slipping for a tidier, easier bag change

Who is this for? This 40 L simplehuman slim step can is aimed at people who need reliable trash management in compact spaces: apartment dwellers, small-family kitchens, caregivers organizing utility rooms, or anyone who values a quiet, dependable lid and a child- and pet-resistant lock. It suits households that want a tidy, minimalist look without compromising on capacity or durability. If you need an easy-to-move can with controlled lid motion and liners that stay put, this slim model is designed for that specific blend of constraints and convenience.
