Winsor & Newton Cotman Sketchers' Pocket Set — 12 Half Pans with Collapsible Pocket Brush and Integrated Mixing Palette, Travel-Re

This lightweight, travel-ready box gives artists and beginners a balanced selection of Cotman watercolors in an economical formula that keeps good transparency, tinting strength and working properties. The molded plastic case doubles as a mixing surface in the lid, and the included pocket brush stores inside the tray so the whole kit fits easily into a bag, glove compartment or field pocket. Actual pan shades may vary slightly, but the set is arranged to cover primary mixing, landscape and skin-tone needs.

What colors are included and why are they useful?

The set contains 12 Cotman half pans chosen to cover a wide range of mixes without excess bulk. These pigments let you mix bright primaries, subtle greens and warm earths suitable for quick studies or layered washes.

• Lemon Yellow Hue and Cadmium Yellow Hue for warm and cool yellow mixes
• Cadmium Red Pale Hue and Alizarin Crimson Hue for vivid and muted reds
• Ultramarine and Intense Blue (Phthalo) for deep skies and strong mixes
• Emerald (Viridian Hue) and Sap Green for foliage and landscape greens
• Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber for earth tones and shadows
• Chinese White for lifting, mixing and lightening mixes as needed

How does the kit work for painting outside or while traveling?

The compact case and integral mixing tray are designed for mobility: the lid becomes a convenient palette and each pan snaps securely into the tray to minimize spills. The pocket brush collapses for storage and pops out for controlled washes or fine detail, making setup and pack-up fast.

• Secure hinge and snap closure keeps pans in place during travel
• Integral lid palette allows immediate mixing without extra gear
• Collapsible pocket brush fits inside the box for neat transport
• Small footprint fits easily in backpacks, purses or jacket pockets

Are these Cotman paints suitable for beginners and students?

Cotman is formulated to offer professional-inspired performance at an economical price, making it a popular choice for learners, students and hobbyists. The paints provide good transparency and tinting strength, so newcomers can practice washes, glazing and color mixing with reliable results.

• Economical pigment choices keep cost down without sacrificing usability
• Consistent working properties help teach wash control and layering
• Half pans are ideal for practicing without large tubes or pots
• Clear, labeled selection helps learn color relationships quickly

How should I care for the set to keep it lasting longer?

Rinse the collapsible brush after each session and allow the lid palette to dry between uses to avoid muddying colors. Store the box in a cool, dry place and close the snap to prevent dust and accidental spillages.

• Clean brush with water until runs clear, reshape bristles, dry collapsed
• Wipe mixing palette after drying to keep pans pure for future mixes
• Avoid freezing temperatures and prolonged heat which can affect pan texture
• Replace individual pans in standard half-pan holders if you prefer tubes later
