Swingline Optima 40 Stapler — 40-Sheet Compact Metal Stapler, Reduced-Force Soft Grip (Orange/Silver/Black)

The Swingline Optima 40 is a compact, low-force stapler that fastens up to 40 sheets reliably while staying quiet and easy to use.

The Optima 40 combines a sturdy metal stapling mechanism with a protective black-and-silver plastic housing and a soft grip, delivering dependable stapling for small desks, busy workstations, and classroom environments. Designed to take half-strip staples and signal when levels are low, this model balances higher sheet capacity with a compact footprint so you can staple larger stacks without sacrificing desk space or comfort.

How many sheets can the Optima 40 staple and which staples should I use?

This stapler secures up to 40 standard sheets in a single press when using recommended staples. For best performance and to avoid jams, use Swingline Optima Premium or S.F. 3 Premium half-strip staples with 1/4" legs.

• Capacity: up to 40 sheets (standard office paper)
• Staple size: half-strip, 1/4" leg length
• Compatible brands: Swingline Optima Premium and S.F. 3 Premium

What makes this stapler easier and quieter to operate than a standard stapler?

The Optima 40 uses a reduced-effort mechanism so you press with less force to clinch stacks cleanly, and an internal design that minimizes noise. A soft, ergonomic grip also helps reduce wrist strain during repetitive use.

• Reduced-force action for smoother presses
• Quieter stapling mechanism suitable for offices and classrooms
• Soft-touch grip to improve comfort and control

How compact is the Optima 40 and how does it indicate low staples?

The stapler is sized to fit neatly on smaller desks and in crowded work areas while still holding a half strip (105 staples). A visible low-staple indicator lets you see when to reload, so you avoid unexpected interruptions.

• Compact footprint fits small workspaces
• Holds a half strip (105) of staples for longer runs
• Low-staple indicator provides quick refill visibility

Is the Optima 40 durable and easy to maintain?

Built with a protected metal mechanism inside a durable plastic housing, the Optima 40 is designed for repeated daily use. Occasional clearing of misfeeds and using compatible high-quality staples will keep it performing well over time.

• Metal internal stapling mechanism for long life
• Plastic housing shields moving parts from dust and damage
• Works best with recommended staples to reduce jams

Who is this for: The Swingline Optima 40 is ideal for students, home-office users, teachers, and small-business teams who need a compact stapler that handles heavier stacks without extra hand strain or loud clicks. If you want a reliable desk stapler that balances higher capacity, quiet operation, and comfortable use in a tidy package, this model is a strong match.
