Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Built for Seeding 17.2 lb — pre-emergent weed preventer & starter fertilizer for new grass

Scotts Turf Builder Triple Action Built For Seeding is a combined pre-emergent weed preventer and lawn fertilizer formulated to protect newly planted turf and accelerate establishment. This granular formula was developed for homeowners sowing new grass or overseeding existing lawns. It delivers a three-part performance: it blocks common spring and summer weeds from developing, supplies nutrients that encourage seedling growth, and helps young turf resist heat and moisture stress as it becomes established. The product is safe for use on a variety of cool- and warm-season grasses when used as directed, and one 17.2 lb. bag treats up to 4,000 square feet.

How does this product keep weeds out while new grass grows?

Scotts Triple Action contains a pre-emergent ingredient that interferes with weed seed development so common invaders like dandelion and crabgrass fail to emerge or quickly weaken. Because the active is formulated for seeding applications, it won’t harm newly germinating turf when applied at recommended timings and rates.

• Prevents dandelion, crabgrass, clover, chickweed, ground ivy, henbit, and nutsedge
• Active for up to six weeks after activation
• Designed not to injure newly seeded Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, centipedegrass, and fine fescues
• Controls new weed sprouts rather than killing mature weeds

When and how should I apply it for best results?

Apply to a dry lawn when daytime temperatures consistently range between 60°F and 90°F. Spread evenly, then water lightly to dissolve granules and start the product working in the soil; always follow spreader settings for accurate coverage.

• Use when planting new seed, overseeding, or after installing sod for compatible grass types
• Recommended spreader settings: Scotts broadcast/rotary 4 1/2, Scotts drop 7, Scotts Wizz 4 3/4
• Light irrigation after application activates the pre-emergent and fertilizer components
• One 17.2 lb. bag treats approximately 4,000 sq ft

What turf benefits does the fertilizer portion provide?

Besides blocking weeds, the product supplies key nutrients that encourage faster germination and stronger, thicker root and shoot development in new grass. Improved early growth helps lawns fill in sooner, making them more resilient to heat and brief dry spells.

• Feeds seedlings to speed establishment and increase density
• Supports root strength for better heat and drought resilience
• Works during the early weeks when new turf is most vulnerable
• Complements proper watering and mowing practices for best results

Will this kill existing weeds or replace grass seed?

No — Triple Action Built For Seeding is not a curative herbicide and will not remove established weeds. Also, the product does not contain seed; you must sow your chosen grass seed separately before or after application according to seeding instructions.

• Prevents future weed emergence, does not eradicate mature weeds
• Does not include grass seed—seed purchase and sowing remain necessary
• Best used as part of an overall seeding and lawn care plan
• Follow label directions to protect desired turf species

Who is this for? This product is aimed at DIY homeowners and lawn caretakers planting new grass or overseeding who want to reduce weed competition during establishment. It suits yards seeded with Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, centipedegrass, and fine fescues, and is practical for those who prefer a single product that combines pre-emergent protection with starter nutrition. Use it when soil and air temperatures match the label guidance, apply with a broadcast or drop spreader for uniform coverage, and irrigate lightly to activate the formula. When combined with correct seed selection, watering, and mowing, this bag can help new turf establish faster and hold off many common weed invaders.
