Scotts Hand-Powered Spreader Whirl — Compact Handheld, 1,500 sq ft Capacity & Adjustable Arm Support

The Scotts Whirl Hand-Powered Spreader is a compact, handheld spreader designed to apply seed, fertilizer, salt, and ice melt evenly across small lawns and walkways.

Lightweight and ready to use right out of the box, this hand-powered spreader is built for homeowners who maintain small properties or need a portable tool for spot treatments. Its adjustable arm support improves comfort during use, while the calibrated opening and spinning mechanism deliver consistent distribution for year-round tasks — from spring seeding to winter ice melting. The unit holds enough material to cover up to 1,500 sq. ft., making it a practical choice when a full-size tow-behind or broadcast spreader is unnecessary.

How does the Scotts Whirl make spreading seed and fertilizer easier?

The Whirl’s spinning distribution system breaks product into a fine, even pattern so you get uniform coverage without repeated passes. The hand-held design lets you target small or irregular areas that larger spreaders can’t reach.

• Calibrated spread opening for controlled flow
• Spinning plate disperses materials evenly
• Small capacity minimizes product waste on spot jobs

Can I use this spreader for winter ice melt and salt?

Yes — the Whirl accepts ice melt and rock salt granules, letting you safely treat pathways, steps, and driveways. Because it’s handheld, you can apply material precisely where traction is needed, reducing over-application.

• Designed for salt and ice melt granules
• Precise handheld control for walkways and entryways
• Reduces excess product compared with broadcast methods

How comfortable and durable is the Whirl during extended use?

The adjustable arm support adds stability and reduces fatigue so you can work longer without strain. The spreader is built for seasonal tasks and comes fully assembled for immediate use.

• Adjustable arm support for improved ergonomics
• Lightweight construction eases handling and transport
• Pre-assembled — ready to use straight from the box

What size area will this hand spreader cover and what materials can I expect to use?

The chamber holds enough product to treat up to approximately 1,500 square feet when following package rates for typical Scotts lawn products. It works with grass seed, granular fertilizers, and common ice melters, making it a versatile year-round tool.

• Capacity suitable for small yards and spot treatments (up to ~1,500 sq. ft.)
• Compatible with grass seed, granular fertilizer, salt, and ice melt
• Ideal for seasonal tasks: spring seeding, summer feeding, winter deicing
