Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Spray Paint Semi-Gloss Black — Oil-Based Protective Enamel, Any-Angle Spray

Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Spray Paint in Semi-Gloss Black is an oil-based protective enamel that prevents rust while giving surfaces a durable, subtle shine.

Designed for both indoor and outdoor projects, this spray enamel combines rust-preventive technology with an any-angle spray valve and a comfort tip to make coverage easier on edges, undersides and tight spots. The formula bonds to wood, metal, concrete and masonry, dries quickly to the touch, and resists abrasion, chipping and fading for long-lasting appearance and protection.

How does this spray paint protect metal against rust?

The Stops Rust formula is oil-based and specially formulated to provide a protective barrier that helps resist corrosion. It adheres to bare or previously painted metal and forms a tough enamel finish that shields surfaces from the elements.

• Oil-based enamel resists moisture and oxidation.
• Excellent adhesion to metal, reducing peeling and flaking.
• Semi-gloss finish minimizes dirt visibility while adding a clean look.
• Resistant to abrasion, chipping and fading for extended durability.

Can I use this paint on surfaces other than metal?

Yes — the product is formulated for a wide range of substrates including wood, concrete and masonry as well as many types of metal. Proper surface preparation ensures the best bond and finish regardless of material.

• Suitable for exterior and interior wood trim, fences and furniture.
• Works on concrete steps, masonry planters and decorative elements.
• Adhesion improves with cleaning, deglossing or priming when needed.
• Covers approximately 15 sq. ft. per can under typical conditions.

What makes the spray can easy to use for detailed or awkward projects?

The can includes any-angle spray technology, so you can spray from different positions — even upside down — to reach crevices and undersides. A comfort tip with a wider finger pad reduces finger fatigue during prolonged spraying, improving control and consistency.

• Any-angle valve sprays at multiple orientations for hard-to-reach areas.
• Comfort tip allows longer use with less finger strain.
• Smooth spray pattern reduces runs and promotes even coverage.
• Dries to the touch in about 2–4 hours for quicker handling.

How long will the finish hold up outdoors?

The semi-gloss enamel is formulated for weather resistance and color retention, offering reliable performance in exterior environments when applied correctly. Regular inspection and touch-up will extend the life of the finish in high-wear locations.

• Weather- and corrosion-resistant formula helps protect against elements.
• Good resistance to fading keeps color stable over time.
• Designed to resist abrasion and chipping under normal use.
• Recoat or touch up worn areas to maintain protection.
