Plugable Universal USB Docking Station UD-3900 — Dual HDMI, USB-C/USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet

The Plugable UD-3900 is a universal USB docking station that adds dual HDMI displays, wired Gigabit Ethernet, audio jacks and six USB ports to laptops via a single USB 3.0 or USB-C connection (driver required).

Convert one laptop port into a full workstation: the UD-3900 expands connectivity for productivity-focused users who need extra displays, fast wired networking, and multiple peripherals without swapping cables. It pairs a hybrid cable for USB 3.0 or USB-C hosts with DisplayLink-based display support so you can attach two independent HDMI monitors and several accessories from a single connection. Read on for compatibility notes, performance details, and practical setup tips to get the most from this dock.

How many and what kind of displays can I run with the UD-3900?

The UD-3900 supports two independent HDMI monitors when the appropriate DisplayLink driver is installed. Each HDMI output can handle up to 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz; connecting a single monitor can allow up to 2560 x 1440 at 50Hz. This dock does not support 4K, DisplayPort, or HDCP-protected streaming content.

• Dual HDMI outputs with independent video streams
• Dual displays up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz each
• Single-monitor mode up to 2560x1440 @ 50Hz
• Not compatible with HDCP streaming services or DisplayPort

Which computers and operating systems work with this docking station?

The dock is broadly compatible with Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS but requires drivers for some platforms. Windows 7–11 typically find a DisplayLink driver via Windows Update; macOS 10.14 and later requires a manual DisplayLink driver install (instructions included). ChromeOS 100+ will work without extra drivers. Linux and other Unix-like systems are not supported.

• Windows 7/8.x/10/11 — driver available via Windows Update
• macOS 10.14+ — manual DisplayLink driver installation required
• ChromeOS 100+ — plug-and-play, no driver needed
• Not supported on Linux/Unix systems

What ports and connections does the UD-3900 provide for peripherals?

One single cable to the host provides a comprehensive set of ports for everyday workflows: two HDMI video outputs, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, separate headphone and microphone 3.5 mm sockets, two USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 ports. This combination supports mice, keyboards, external drives, wired networking and audio devices while keeping your laptop’s own ports free.

• 2x HDMI for external monitors
• 1x Gigabit Ethernet for stable wired networking
• 2x USB 3.0 and 4x USB 2.0 for peripherals
• 3.5 mm headphone and microphone jacks for audio

Are there any important limitations or setup tips I should know?

This dock is designed for office and productivity use rather than gaming or protected video playback. It will not charge the host laptop, and some content requiring HDCP will not play through the DisplayLink outputs. For best performance, install the recommended DisplayLink driver on systems that require it and use a quality HDMI cable for each monitor.

• Not intended for gaming or HDCP-protected streaming
• Does not provide laptop charging power
• Driver install required on some systems for full video support
• Use good HDMI cables and connect directly to the dock for reliability
