Plugable Dual 1080p HDMI Universal Docking Station UD-3900Z — USB-C & USB-A, 10 Ports, Gigabit Ethernet

Plugable UD-3900Z is a compact universal docking station that expands a laptop into a dual 1080p HDMI workstation with ten ports for mixed USB-C and USB-A computers.

Whether you're standardizing desks in an office or building a flexible home setup, this dock turns a single USB connection into two HDMI displays plus network, audio, and multiple USB ports. It supports Windows, ChromeOS, and macOS (macOS requires DisplayLink software) and comes with both USB-C and USB-A host cables so it works with newer and older laptops. The vertical design minimizes desktop footprint while giving IT teams a consistent multi-port solution across different operating systems and device generations.

How does this dock enable dual external displays?

The UD-3900Z sends two separate 1920x1200 HDMI outputs from one USB connection using DisplayLink technology. On Windows and ChromeOS it is plug-and-play; macOS users install DisplayLink drivers to unlock the external display capability. Note the dock does not support HDCP-protected streaming services.

• Dual HDMI outputs up to 1920x1200 (1080p)
• Works with single USB-C or USB-A host cable included
• macOS requires DisplayLink software installation
• Not compatible with protected video streaming (HDCP)

Which ports and speeds are available on the UD-3900Z?

This dock provides a mix of high-speed and legacy ports for common peripherals and networking. You get two 5Gbps USB 3.x Type-A ports, four USB 2.0 ports for keyboards or mice, Gigabit Ethernet for wired networking, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The combination covers printers, external drives, wired LAN, and basic audio needs without extra adapters.

• Two USB 3.x ports (5Gbps) for fast external storage
• Four USB 2.0 ports for accessories and legacy devices
• Gigabit Ethernet for reliable wired network access
• 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack for peripherals

Will this dock work with my laptop model and operating system?

It’s designed for broad compatibility: Windows and ChromeOS machines generally run without extra setup, and Plugable supplies both USB-C and USB-A host cables so older laptops are supported. For macOS, installing DisplayLink drivers enables external displays; note some Apple M1/M2/M3 MacBooks have single-display limitations but the dock can extend multi-monitor capability on many models. The dock does not power/charge laptops.

• Windows: automatic driver install via Windows Update
• ChromeOS: native plug-and-play support
• macOS: DisplayLink driver required for monitors
• Includes USB-C and USB-A host cables; no laptop charging

What use cases is this docking station best suited for?

This device focuses on office productivity, administrative workstations, and mixed-OS IT deployments rather than media streaming or gaming. It standardizes ports for multi-monitor work, video calls, wired networking, and peripheral expansion—helpful in call centers, shared desks, and remote-work setups. It’s not intended for protected streaming playback or high-refresh-rate gaming.

• Ideal for business apps, spreadsheets, and web workflows
• Great for IT-managed mixed device fleets
• Not recommended for full-screen encrypted video or gaming
• Compact vertical form factor to reduce desk clutter

Who is this for? The Plugable UD-3900Z is aimed at professionals, IT teams, and hybrid workers who need a reliable, compact way to add two 1080p displays plus Ethernet and multiple USB connections to laptops that lack ports. If you need a standardized docking solution for offices with Windows, ChromeOS, and macOS devices—or you want to reuse older USB-A laptops alongside new USB-C machines—this dock delivers versatile connectivity and lifetime support from Plugable’s North American team.
