Orbit 6-Station Outdoor/Indoor Sprinkler Timer 57896 — Swing-Panel, Water-Saving Features

The Orbit 57896 Easy Set Logic timer is a 6-station indoor/outdoor sprinkler controller with a locking swing panel that simplifies wiring, scheduling, and water-saving features for home irrigation systems.

This compact controller delivers straightforward automation for residential lawns and gardens, combining tool-free push-wire terminals, multiple program slots, and built-in water-conservation options. Designed for outdoor or indoor mounting, the unit accepts standard 18‑gauge multi-conductor wire and supports common add-ons like rain or freeze sensors via a relay input. It’s built to streamline installation while letting you create customized watering cycles for different parts of your landscape.

How do I set up schedules and manage different garden zones?

The Orbit 57896 includes three program slots (A, B, C) with up to four start times each, so you can assign separate routines to distinct parts of your yard. Cycle and soak capability helps spread a long runtime into shorter passes to improve soil absorption and reduce runoff.

• Create up to three unique programs for turf, planting beds, or containers.
• Use four start times per program to stagger irrigation across the day.
• Enable cycle and soak to split long runtimes into shorter intervals for better infiltration.
• Manual run lets you test individual zones or run supplemental watering on demand.

What makes installation and wiring easier with this controller?

A swing-out wiring panel and push-wire terminals remove the need for tools during connection, speeding up setup and future maintenance. The controller’s locking cabinet includes two keys to protect wiring and settings when mounted outdoors.

• Push-wire terminals accept standard 18‑gauge irrigation wire for quick insertion and removal.
• Swing panel gives clear access to terminals and simplifies routing of zone and common wires.
• Mounts indoors or outdoors with a weather-resistant cabinet and a keyed lock for security.
• Compatible with 24 VAC irrigation valves from Orbit and most major brands.

How does this timer help conserve water and adapt to weather?

The timer supports rain delay to pause scheduled irrigation during wet weather, and it includes a relay for automatically integrating third-party rain or freeze sensors. Runtime stacking ensures only one solenoid operates at a time, which reduces pressure issues and prevents overlapping valve operation.

• Rain delay skips watering for selected days to avoid unnecessary cycles after rainfall.
• Relay input accepts automatic rain and freeze sensors (sold separately) for hands-off weather response.
• Automatic runtime stacking prevents simultaneous valve operation to preserve water pressure.
• Manual override provides targeted watering without changing saved schedules.

Can this controller handle my system size and future upgrades?

The model supports six stations natively and is part of Orbit’s Easy Set Logic line, which is available in configurations up to 12 stations—useful if you plan to expand. It works with typical irrigation hardware and wiring, so adding valves or sensors later is straightforward.

• Six-station controller is ideal for medium-sized yards and segmented landscapes.
• Compatible with multi-strand 18‑gauge irrigation wire (5 or 7 conductor options).
• Supports standard 24 VAC valves and plug-in sensors for future upgrades.
• Compact footprint fits common mounting locations on exterior walls or utility rooms.

Who is this for: The Orbit 57896 6-station Easy Set Logic timer is aimed at homeowners and property managers who want a simple, reliable irrigation controller that balances easy installation with useful programming and water-saving features. It suits medium-sized lawns, landscaped yards with multiple zones, or anyone who prefers a keyed outdoor cabinet and quick push-wire connections for fast setup and low-maintenance operation.
