Niser Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder - Metal Mesh Hanging Feeder, 3 lb Green, Gravity-Activated Protection

The Niser Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder is a hanging metal-mesh seed feeder with gravity-activated protection and a roomy 3 lb capacity to keep squirrels out and small wild birds fed.

This green, weather-resistant feeder is designed to hang from a hook or branch and deliver seed to finches, cardinals, chickadees and other small songbirds while making access difficult for squirrels. Built from durable metal mesh and a gravity-protection mechanism, it balances open feeding areas for birds with barriers that discourage heavier pests. The simple, classic silhouette and powder-coated finish resist rust and blend into backyard plantings.

How does the squirrel-proof system work to protect seed?

The feeder uses a gravity-activated collar and sturdy metal mesh so heavier animals trigger partial closure while lighter birds can easily perch and feed. There are no complicated moving parts to maintain — the design relies on weight differential and solid construction to reduce pilfering.

• Gravity-protection collar closes under heavier weight
• Metal mesh walls prevent large beaks or claws from reaching seed
• Powder-coated finish resists weathering and wear
• Simple hanging hook installs on existing shepherd’s hooks or branches

Will small songbirds like finches and chickadees be able to feed easily?

Yes — the mesh aperture and feeding ports are sized to let small perching birds access seed comfortably while remaining off-limits to larger pests. The open mesh also provides grip for tiny feet and good airflow to keep seed drier.

• Mesh spacing suited to finch, chickadee, and titmouse beaks
• Perch-friendly surface for natural feeding posture
• Generous openings avoid crowding at feeding spots

How often will I need to refill a 3 lb feeder and how easy is maintenance?

A 3 lb capacity reduces refill frequency for casual backyard use; exact interval depends on local bird activity and species. Filling and cleaning are straightforward — the top lid lifts for quick refills and periodic rinsing so the feeder stays sanitary.

• 3 lb capacity holds several days to weeks of seed depending on visitors
• Top-fill lid for fast refills without disassembly
• Metal construction allows simple rinsing and drying
• Removable parts are minimal for low-maintenance care

Where should I hang it to reduce squirrel problems and attract birds?

Location matters: place the feeder 10–12 feet from launch points like trees or roofs, and five to six feet above the ground for safer bird access. Choosing a semi-sheltered spot near shrubs or perches will make birds feel secure while keeping it inconvenient for squirrels.

• Mount on a pole or hook away from jump-off points
• Place near bushes or small trees for bird cover but not squirrel launching
• Keep out of direct wind to limit seed scatter

Who is this for: the Niser metal mesh squirrel-proof feeder suits backyard birdwatchers who want a low-maintenance, durable feeder that favors small songbirds over squirrels. It’s a good choice for homeowners, gardeners, or gift-givers seeking a practical outdoor feeding solution that blends into green spaces and reduces frequent refills and seed loss. Ideal for those who prefer a sturdy hanging feeder with straightforward operation and a 3 lb capacity for moderate to heavy bird traffic.
