Loctite 88442 (272) is a red, high-strength threadlocker formulated to lock and seal threaded assemblies that must resist high temperatures and heavy-duty vibration.
Designed for demanding industrial and automotive applications, this 50 mL bottle of Loctite 272 cures quickly on most surfaces, including freshly machined or “as received” fasteners. Once cured, the bond resists loosening from shock and high heat; disassembly requires heat and hand or power tools. The compact bottle size and narrow nozzle make it practical for workshop benches, repair kits, and maintenance carts.
Loctite 272 initiates a rapid cure on most metallic and treated metal surfaces, achieving handling strength in a short time under normal conditions. Full cure time depends on thread gap, material, and ambient temperature—gaps and lower temperatures slow polymerization.
Because Loctite 272 is a high-strength formula, routine hand loosening is usually not possible after full cure. Controlled application of heat softens the adhesive, enabling removal with standard tools; mechanical force without heat can damage fasteners or parts.
Loctite 272 is optimized for metal fasteners and most metal substrates, providing reliable performance on steel, stainless steel, and plated metals. It also adheres to many treated surfaces, though curing may be slower on certain coatings or nonmetal substrates.
The 50 mL bottle is suited for periodic maintenance, repair shops, and small production runs where high-strength locking is required but bulk volume isn’t necessary. Its compact dimensions make it easy to store and control bead size during application.
Who is this product best suited for? Loctite 88442 (272) is aimed at mechanics, maintenance technicians, fabricators, and engineers who need a dependable, high-strength locking solution for high-temperature or high-vibration environments. If your application requires permanent or semi-permanent fastening on metal parts—such as engine assemblies, transmission components, or heavy machinery—this threadlocker provides a professional-level option. For assemblies that will require frequent disassembly, consider using a lower-strength or removable threadlocker instead.
Q: Is Loctite 272 removable once cured?
A: Yes—removal requires heat application and appropriate hand or power tools; simple hand turning usually won’t free cured fasteners.
Q: Can I use Loctite 272 on stainless steel?
A: Yes—Loctite 272 bonds well to stainless steel, though cure times can vary with surface finish and cleanliness.
