LEGO Technic Off-Road Race Buggy 219-Piece Set — 8+ Compact Race Car with Working Engine & Suspension

The LEGO Technic Off-Road Race Buggy (42164) is a 219-piece build-and-play model that recreates real buggy features like a moving 4-cylinder engine, rear suspension and flex steering for hands-on engineering fun.

This compact Technic set is designed for kids ages 8 and up who enjoy construction toys and vehicle play. With authentic mechanical details and a finished model that measures about 17 cm (6.5 in) long, the set bridges creative building with simple engineering principles. Young builders assemble gears and linkages, then test the buggy’s suspension and steering — making it a toy that’s both a construction challenge and an interactive plaything.

What realistic functions does the model include?

The Off-Road Race Buggy recreates working vehicle mechanics scaled for a kid-friendly model. Key moving parts give visible feedback during play so children can see how components interact.

• Moving 4-cylinder engine linked to the drivetrain for motion simulation
• Rear suspension that compresses and rebounds over uneven surfaces
• Flex steering that allows the buggy to tilt and turn with responsive control
• Durable Technic connectors and beams for sturdy, realistic movement

How long does it take to build and is the instruction help available?

Build time varies with experience, typically a few focused hours for the 219 pieces. The set comes with printed instructions and the LEGO Builder app provides interactive 3D instructions for zooming, rotating and tracking progress.

• 219 pieces tuned for an engaging, age-appropriate challenge
• Step-by-step booklet included for offline building
• LEGO Builder app: 3D view, zoom and rotate, and guided build assistance
• Helpful for developing fine motor skills and sequential thinking

How does playtime work once the buggy is finished?

After assembly the buggy is ready for imaginative racing and stunts on carpet, tile or a backyard path. Built-in mechanics make play more than just pushing: suspension and steering respond to surfaces and maneuvers.

• Push-driven movement showcases the 4-cylinder engine action
• Rear suspension soaks up small bumps and keeps wheels connected to ground
• Compact size fits on tabletops, race tracks and display shelves
• Robust build withstands active play typical for ages 8+

What are the size and gift-suitability details?

The model is intentionally compact for display and play, making it a convenient gift option for birthdays and special occasions. Its clear vehicle theme and realistic parts appeal to children who like cars, engineering toys and hands-on projects.

• Finished model dimensions: about 3.5 in (9 cm) high, 6.5 in (17 cm) long, 4 in (11 cm) wide
• Age recommendation: 8 years and up
• Piece count: 219 pieces—easy to wrap and gift
