KNIPEX Cobra® XS 4 in. Water Pump Pliers — 1" Jaw Capacity, One-Hand Push-Button Adjustment

The KNIPEX 87 00 100 Cobra® XS is the world’s smallest fully functional water pump plier, offering one-handed quick adjustment and up to 1" jaw capacity for tight-space jobs.

Compact but capable, these 4 in. Cobra® XS pliers deliver the same gripping technology KNIPEX is known for in a much smaller package. Designed for professionals and DIYers who need full functionality where space is limited, the tool balances a slim head profile, self-locking action on pipes and nuts, and hardened gripping surfaces for reliable hold. Built with a box-joint design and textured handles, the pliers feel stable in use and reduce hand force while preventing slips and pinch injuries.

How do these tiny pliers adjust quickly with one hand?

The Cobra® XS uses a push-button adjustment located on the jaw that lets you select from 11 positions without removing the tool from the workpiece. You can glide the jaws open or closed and lock them instantly, which speeds repetitive work and single-handed operations in cramped environments.

• 11 adjustment positions reachable with the thumb
• One-handed push-button mechanism for fast size changes
• Slim head design maintains access while adjusting

Will these pliers hold on pipes and nuts without slipping?

Yes — the Cobra® XS is engineered for self-locking on cylindrical and hexagonal surfaces, reducing the need for excess gripping force. Special hardened teeth (61 HRC) bite into the workpiece to maintain a secure hold so you can apply torque confidently.

• Self-locking action minimizes slipping during use
• Hardened gripping teeth for durable, positive engagement
• Low hand force required thanks to mechanical leverage

How does the small size affect strength and stability?

Despite its compact length, the 4 in. Cobra® XS retains a robust box-joint construction for high lateral stability. The double guide in the joint prevents twisting and keeps both jaws aligned under load, making the tool behave like a larger water pump plier in performance.

• Box-joint design offers increased stability under load
• Double guide reduces jaw play and maintains alignment
• Specially textured handles enhance control and comfort

What size work can the jaws handle and where does it fit best?

The jaws open to a maximum capacity of 1" (25 mm), covering a wide range of plumbing, mechanical and assembly tasks that require a small, precise gripping tool. The slim head is especially helpful in crowded fittings, behind fixtures, and inside cabinets where conventional pliers won't reach.

• Maximum jaw capacity up to 1" for pipes, nuts, and fittings
• Slim head profile for tight, confined access points
• Compact length ideal for tool belts, pockets, and small hands

Who is this for? The KNIPEX 87 00 100 Cobra® XS is aimed at plumbers, HVAC technicians, electricians, maintenance staff, and hobbyists who need full-size functionality in a miniature tool. It’s perfect when workspace is limited, when one-handed adjustment speeds a job, or when a reliable, self-locking grip increases efficiency and safety. If you regularly work on small fittings, behind appliances, or in crowded engine bays, these pliers provide a precise, durable solution that fits where larger tools cannot.
