Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector Portable AA Battery Powered — 85 dB Alarm, Electrochemical Sensor (3rd Edition)

This compact unit provides portable carbon monoxide monitoring for home or travel. It runs on two AA alkaline batteries (included) so there’s no hardwiring required and it continues to operate during power outages. The device combines a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor with clear visual and audible alerts, a test/reset button, and event memory to document recent detections or tests.

How does this detector sense carbon monoxide?

The Kidde 9CO5LP2 uses an electrochemical sensor designed to react to the presence of carbon monoxide gas. When CO is present, the sensor produces an electrical signal that triggers the alarm and LED indicators. This sensor type is commonly used for accuracy and stability in CO detection devices.

• Electrochemical sensing for reliable CO detection
• Red LED flashes and 85 dB alarm when CO is detected
• Event memory records last detected CO event or last test

How easy is it to install and power the unit?

Installation is straightforward: no wiring, screws, or professional setup required. Slide open the rear battery compartment, insert the two AA batteries, then mount on a wall or place on a tabletop. The detector’s green LED confirms power status so you can verify it’s operating at a glance.

• Powers on two AA alkaline batteries (included) for simple setup
• Wall mount or tabletop placement for flexible positioning
• Continues to protect during power outages because it’s battery-operated

What user controls and indicators does it offer?

A single test/reset button provides easy testing of the unit and temporarily silences nuisance chirps. Visual feedback includes a green LED that shows the unit is powered and a red LED that flashes alongside the audible alarm when CO is detected. A low-battery chirp warns when the batteries need replacement.

• Test/Reset button to confirm operation and silence alerts
• Green power LED and red alarm LED for immediate visual status
• Low-battery indicator and temporary hush feature for convenience

How does it perform in real-world use and maintenance?

The 9CO5LP2 is designed for routine, hassle-free use. Its portable size makes it handy for travel or temporary locations, while event memory keeps a short record of the last detection or test. Replace batteries as recommended and test periodically to ensure continued protection.

• Portable design suitable for hotel rooms, RVs, apartments, and homes
• Event memory helps confirm the timing of recent alarms or tests
• UL certified and backed by a 10-year limited manufacturer’s warranty

Who is this for? The Kidde 9CO5LP2 is a practical choice for anyone who wants a simple, battery-powered carbon monoxide detector that’s easy to install, transport, and maintain. It’s appropriate for homeowners who need supplemental CO protection near sleeping areas, renters who want a non-wired solution, and travelers who want temporary CO monitoring while away from home. For comprehensive safety, pair this CO detector with smoke alarms and follow local codes regarding placement and quantity of devices.
