Katadyn BeFree Collapsible Water Bottle 1L Clear — 0.1 micron Filter, Ultralight & Packable

The Katadyn BeFree 1.0L is an ultralight, collapsible water bottle with a 0.1 micron hollow-fiber filter that delivers fast, on-demand filtered water from lakes, streams, and taps.

The BeFree combines a squeezable, BPA-free bottle with a high-flow hollow-fiber membrane so you can drink directly from natural sources without pumps, tablets, or long waits. Designed for minimal weight and maximum packability, it folds flat to fit a pocket or vest, filters quickly at up to 2 L/min, and is simple to clean in the field with a quick shake. Its compact design and proven filtration membrane make it a practical choice for trail runners, backpackers, international travelers, and everyday preparedness kits.

How fast and effective is the BeFree filter for outdoor water?

The BeFree uses a 0.1 micron hollow-fiber membrane that removes sediment and fine particles for clear, better-tasting water. Flow rate is high compared with many microfilters, allowing up to 2 liters per minute when squeezing, so you can hydrate quickly without waiting.

• 0.1 micron EZ-Clean hollow-fiber membrane for particle filtration
• Flow rate up to 2 L/min for fast drinking
• Filter lifetime rated up to 1,000 liters under typical conditions
• No pumping or filter assembly required — drink directly from the bottle

What makes this bottle so packable and lightweight?

The bottle body is flexible and collapses completely flat when empty, saving space in side pockets, vests, or running shorts. At roughly 2.3 ounces, the BeFree adds negligible weight to your kit while still holding a full liter of water when needed.

• Collapsible design packs down to nearly nothing for storage
• 1.0 L capacity that fits standard water-bottle pockets
• Lightweight construction ideal for ultralight backpacking and trail running
• BPA-free materials safe for repeated use

How simple is maintenance and cleaning on the trail?

Maintenance is intentionally minimal: restore flow by shaking or swishing the bottle in clean water to dislodge trapped particles. There’s no need to backflush with separate tools or disassemble the filter, which keeps in-field upkeep fast and fuss-free.

• EZ-Clean membrane is rejuvenated by shaking or swishing
• No separate backflush syringe or tools required
• Quick rinse after use extends filter life and preserves flow
• Replaceable filter units simplify long-term ownership

Is the BeFree compatible with other hydration systems?

The collapsible bottle can be used independently or fitted into many hydration setups and pack pockets because of its slim, flexible shape. Its standard-sized opening and lightweight body make it convenient for mixing, refilling from taps, or stashing inside a pack for emergency water storage.

• Compatible with most pack side pockets and hydration sleeves
• Wide enough opening for easy filling from taps and spouts
• Collapses to fit inside jackets, vests, or stow pockets when empty
• Works well as a backup or primary water source on multi-day trips
