HABA First Orchard Cooperative Toddler Game - My Very First Games, Wooden Color-Matching Game for Ages 2+

First Orchard is a cooperative wooden board game from HABA designed to teach color recognition, turn-taking and simple counting to children aged 2 and up.

First Orchard is part of HABA's My Very First Games line and has been enjoyed by families for decades. This compact cooperative game invites one to four players to work together to collect colorful wooden fruit from the orchard before the raven reaches the tree. Durable, sustainably sourced wooden pieces, an easy-to-read chunky die, and rules developed by educators make it a gentle introduction to game play for toddlers and preschoolers.

How does First Orchard make learning play-based and simple for toddlers?

The game uses a clear, single-goal cooperative mechanic so young children can focus on shared success rather than competition. Players roll a color die, choose matching fruit, and practice hand-eye coordination and following a turn sequence. The visual simplicity and large pieces reduce frustration and increase independent play.

• Chunky color die for easy handling and color matching
• 16 oversized wooden fruit pieces for fine motor practice
• Cooperative win condition that teaches teamwork rather than opposition

What skills will my child develop by playing First Orchard?

First Orchard reinforces several foundational early-learning skills through repeated, short rounds of play. Children strengthen color recognition, counting up to small numbers, and manual dexterity by picking up wooden fruit. The game also introduces social skills like waiting for a turn, following simple rules, and celebrating joint success.

• Color recognition with bright, distinct fruit shapes
• Early counting through collecting and counting pieces
• Turn-taking and cooperative problem-solving

Is First Orchard durable and safe for young children?

HABA builds First Orchard with PEFC-certified wood and child-friendly paints to withstand repeated handling by toddlers. The pieces are large, rounded, and free of small choking-risk parts, so they’re suitable for ages two and older. The compact box keeps components organized for storage and travel.

• Made from sustainably certified wood
• Large, rounded pieces designed for toddler hands
• Sturdy box for easy storage and transport

How long are play sessions and can it grow with my child?

Rounds are intentionally short—typically 5–15 minutes—so they fit toddler attention spans and make it easy to play frequently. As children age, caregivers can introduce finer rules like counting turns, naming fruits, or timing rounds to extend learning. The cooperative format remains appealing for siblings and mixed-age family play.

• Short playtime ideal for preschool attention spans
• Expandable rules to add counting or vocabulary practice
• Works well with 1–4 players for solo or family sessions
