First Alert Plug-in Carbon Monoxide Detector CO605 - White, Electrochemical Sensor & Battery Backup

The First Alert CO605 is a plug-in carbon monoxide detector with an electrochemical sensor and battery backup that provides continuous CO monitoring and audible alerts even during power outages.

Compact and easy to install, this white CO alarm draws power from any standard outlet and keeps protecting your home when the power goes out thanks to its built-in battery backup. The CO605 uses an electrochemical sensing element—the most accurate detection method for carbon monoxide—so you can rely on consistent readings without complicated programming or displays. A single multi-function button tests the unit, mutes nuisance chirps, and silences low-battery alerts temporarily, while an 85-decibel alarm warns occupants when dangerous CO levels are present.

How simple is installation and daily use?

Installation requires no tools: plug the unit into a standard wall outlet and it begins monitoring right away. The design minimizes setup time and avoids wall mounting hardware, making it easy to move between rooms as needed.

• Plugs directly into any standard outlet—no wiring or drill work required
• Single button performs test and mute functions for straightforward operation
• Compact footprint keeps outlets usable and unobtrusive in living spaces

What detection technology does the CO605 use and why does it matter?

The CO605 employs an electrochemical sensor, the industry-preferred technology for carbon monoxide detection. Electrochemical cells respond specifically to CO, improving accuracy and reducing false alarms compared with less sensitive sensor types.

• Electrochemical sensor detects CO reliably across a range of concentrations
• Meets UL safety standards for carbon monoxide alarms
• End-of-life chirp signals when the unit should be replaced for continued protection

What features help during power outages or nuisance alerts?

The built-in battery backup keeps the detector active during electrical interruptions so monitoring continues uninterrupted. For nuisance or low-battery noises, the mute function silences temporary alerts while preserving the unit’s primary protective functions.

• Battery backup maintains full functionality when mains power is lost
• Mute silences nuisance alarms and low-battery chirps for up to eight hours
• 85-decibel audible alarm provides a loud, clear warning to occupants

How should I place and maintain the CO605 for best protection?

Place one detector on every level of the home and inside each bedroom to maximize coverage. Routine testing and replacing the unit as indicated by the end-of-life signal help ensure the alarm remains effective over time.

• Recommended: one alarm per floor and one in each sleeping area
• Test regularly with the single button to confirm proper operation
• Replace unit when end-of-life chirp begins or at the end of the warranty period

Who is this for: The First Alert CO605 is designed for homeowners, renters, and small business operators seeking an accurate, no-fuss carbon monoxide alarm that’s easy to install and maintain. It suits anyone who wants dependable CO detection without complex programming—especially households that need continuous protection during power outages or prefer minimal setup and clear audible alerts.
