Canon PG-285 XL Black Ink Cartridge — High-Yield 400-Page Genuine Cartridge for TR7820/TS7720/TS7722

Canon PG-285 XL is a high-yield genuine black ink cartridge engineered to deliver crisp, consistent black text and reliable printer performance in compatible Canon inkjet models.

Designed by Canon to meet the printer maker’s exacting standards, the PG-285 XL ink cartridge gives you longer run times and predictable print quality compared with non‑genuine alternatives. This cartridge is optimized for select Canon home and small office inkjets, helping maintain printhead health and color accuracy when combined with Canon’s color counterparts. Choosing the genuine cartridge means you get a product made to fit Canon’s FINE printhead technology and to work seamlessly with your printer’s sensors and firmware.

How many pages will the PG-285 XL print and what does "XL" mean?

The "XL" designation identifies this cartridge as a high‑capacity option, giving you more pages per cartridge than the standard size. Canon rates the PG-285 XL black cartridge at approximately 400 pages based on industry-standard coverage tests, which translates to fewer cartridge changes and lower cost per page for text-heavy jobs.

• Estimated yield: about 400 black text pages (industry-standard coverage).
• Higher capacity reduces frequency of replacements and downtime.
• Better value for users who print lots of documents.

Will this cartridge work with my Canon TR7820 or TS7720/7722?

Yes—PG-285 XL is specifically compatible with Canon TR7820, TS7720, and TS7722 printers. It’s manufactured to fit the cartridge bay, communicate with the printer’s firmware, and work with Canon’s printhead to produce sharp black text and clear document printing.

• Official compatibility: TR7820, TS7720, TS7722 models.
• Designed to match Canon printer firmware recognition and ink delivery systems.
• Maintains printer reliability and reduces risk of error messages encountered with non‑genuine cartridges.

How does Canon’s FINE technology improve print results?

Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology places thousands of micro-nozzles in the printhead to deposit ink precisely where it’s needed. This leads to sharp, legible text, smoother gradients in graphics, and consistent dot placement that helps prevent banding and misalignment on documents and photos.

• Uses thousands of fine nozzles for accurate ink placement.
• Reduces visible banding and improves edge clarity on text.
• Supports consistent performance across multiple print jobs.

How should I choose between genuine Canon ink and third‑party alternatives?

Genuine Canon ink is formulated specifically for Canon printers, balancing pigment and viscosity to protect the printhead and sensors. While third‑party cartridges can be cheaper upfront, genuine cartridges help avoid compatibility issues, firmware conflicts, and potential printhead maintenance that can arise from incompatible formulations.

• Genuine ink preserves printhead condition and sensor accuracy.
• Canon packaging and logos help verify authenticity and quality.
• Using OEM cartridges reduces the chance of printing errors and warranty concerns.

Who this is for: The Canon PG-285 XL is ideal for home users, students, and small office environments that produce a steady volume of black-and-white documents—reports, invoices, letters, and study materials. If you prioritize dependable text clarity, longer intervals between replacements, and a cartridge designed to work seamlessly with Canon TR7820 or TS7720/7722 printers, the PG-285 XL delivers a practical balance of value and reliability without compromising print quality.
