Balavina Over-the-Sink Colander Expandable Fine Mesh Strainer - Telescoping Rubber Grip 13.4–21.3" for Fruits, Veggies & Pasta

Balavina's Over-the-Sink Colander is an expandable stainless-steel fine mesh strainer with a non-slip rubber grip that spans most sinks to rinse and drain fruits, vegetables, and pasta hands-free.

This over-the-sink colander is built from durable stainless steel and a fine-mesh basket to let water flow away while keeping food secure. The telescoping rubber-coated handle extends from 13.4 inches to 21.3 inches to fit a wide variety of sink widths, while two foldable legs let the strainer stand on the counter. It’s designed for quick rinsing, steaming drain-off, and short-term countertop storage of produce, and it’s dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.

How does this colander save time at the sink?

By resting across the sink, the Balavina strainer frees both hands for scrubbing, tossing, or multitasking while water drains directly away. The fine mesh catches small grains without requiring you to hold or balance the basket, so rinsing and draining take fewer steps.

• Expands from 13.4" to 21.3" to fit most sink widths.
• Fine stainless-steel mesh prevents small food from slipping through.
• Hands-free draining reduces the need to transfer food between tools.
• Foldable legs let you convert it to a countertop fruit or veggie basket.

Will this strainer handle cooked pasta and hot liquids safely?

The mesh and frame are made for heat-resistant kitchen use, so they can drain hot pasta and thicker liquids like sauces and gravies. Use caution with very heavy or overflowing contents—this model is optimized for typical home portions.

• Stainless-steel construction tolerates hot water and steam.
• Fine mesh catches spaghetti strands and small pasta shapes.
• Sturdy frame maintains shape during hot draining tasks.
• Avoid placing excessively heavy loads to prevent stress on the handle.

How secure is the strainer when placed across different sinks?

The extendable handle has a rubberized, non-slip grip to anchor the colander on uneven edges and prevent rotation during use. Adjustable length plus the leg supports combine to give a stable work surface for rinsing and draining.

• Telescoping rubber grip expands to match a range of sink widths.
• Non-slip coating reduces sliding on wet sink edges.
• Two support legs hold the basket level over the sink or on the counter.
• Lightweight but rigid frame minimizes wobble under normal loads.

What maintenance is required and is it dishwasher safe?

Balavina designed this colander for low-maintenance use. The smooth stainless-steel surface resists staining and food buildup, and the whole unit is safe to place in the dishwasher for routine cleaning.

• Rinse after heavy use to remove trapped particles from the fine mesh.
• Dishwasher safe for quick cleaning; position securely in the rack.
• Wipe the rubberized handle dry to prolong non-slip performance.
• Fold legs and collapse handle for compact storage.
